Why Planet Fitness Attracts More Exercise Saboteurs Than Anyone Else…

I write about Planet Fitness often because their marketing is based on the psychological triggers that really attract the exercise based self saboteur. Planet’s marketing is brilliant when it comes to advertising psychology. 95-99% of all our behaviors and belief systems are formulated in our subconscious mind, which means we’re literally on cruise control regarding much of what we do in a day……unless we learn how to recognize our most destructive subconscious behaviors and consciously interfere with them.

The Planet Fitness business model is based on signing people up and having them never go, which is also a win-win for the saboteur who wants to “pretend they’re getting healthy” yet is literally afraid of rising up to their full potential. The saboteur is only afraid to become their best for the same reason we’re all afraid to become our best and that’s because we live in a society that celebrates failure and punishes positive pursuit of our full potential. In order to RISE UP to where we deserve to be we need to move toward positive role models and situations that place pressure on us to be our absolute best.

With the Pizza Monday’s and Bagel Tuesday’s at Planet Fitness…..the message is blasted out loud and clear. That message is “we don’ expect any sort of progress from you, we don’t take your health seriously either, so no pressure here.” To be our best we need pressure and we need judgement…..the more the better. Pressure and judgement is what forces us to keep evolving. This is the advertising honey that gets the saboteurs running in en masse. It’s not like most members would eat the bagels and pizza anyway but the idea of the junk food being on site provides the saboteur an idea that real health advancement isn’t expected what so ever……which resonates at the same frequency of the saboteur, who’s afraid to rise up to be their very best. We also see another mark of extremely effective psychology in Planet Fitness’s advertising campaign with the use of the phrase, “no commitment”. If there’s something the saboteur is having a passionate love affair with it’s the idea of “no commitment” because commitment means success……which frightens the saboteur. The safest place in our corrupted society is being average, mediocre and under achieving. Instead of trying to promote an environment of success using the same psychology…….Planet Fitness screams, “come be mediocre over here, give us your money and we’ll never put any pressure on you to rise up, evolve or become more.” This is how much fear our society has of becoming successful. There are now entire business models coming to the surface that profit from client failure. Knowing how the mind really works and recognizing it in real time, is the key to overcoming self sabotage.
