I was working out in a government fitness facility over the weekend and although it offers exercise at a very low price, the place was empty. While at the same time, the little coffee shop selling every poison under the sun is lined up out the door. This is what I call the death of long term goals and the rise of instant gratification. The intelligent and spiritual sage knows that all people struggle. The overweight and medicated person struggles but so does the in shape and unmedicated person. We all struggle……yet the successful person avoids the trap of instant gratification and focuses on struggling toward long term goal attainment. Exercise is a struggle to become your very best but it takes a laser like focus, over the long haul. Eating junk food because it makes you feel groovy immediately….is a struggle for sameness and mediocrity. Eating junk is a strike at your full potential, which will always feel like the “right choice” when you’re surrounded by an ocean of underachievers.
Most people choose instant gratification over long term goal attainment because they’ve been convinced that any amount of pain in their lives (up to and including any mild discomfort) is basically a human rights violation. Most people believe it’s their God given right to avoid pain at all costs with sugar, caffeine, wheat, cow’s milk, alcohol, medical pain killers, narcotics, porn, shopping, THC etc etc. Sure sedating and tranquilizing oneself to the pains of life means you walk the planet with a big shit eating grin on your face 24 hours per day…but your soul can’t be fooled. Pain is there to let us all know when we’re walking the wrong path. Pain is a guardian, not a goblin. To avoid pain, is to guarantee you never rise to your full potential.
As I was working out over the weekend I felt the pain of death, which helps me stay focused toward my long term goals of educating the public with books, audio talks, live conferences and documentaries. I also felt and processed many other pains in my life, to help me stay on the moral and noble path. You can’t do anything about a rusty nail in your foot, unless you first feel it. A medicated and tranquilized life is a conformist life…..the act of playing small, in order to fit into a society that rewards order following, compliance, reflexive obedience to corrupt authority, self murder, sameness and mediocrity. It’s a choice….be yourself and keep your soul. Sedate and tranquilize yourself to normal every day pains (which are meant to GUIDE YOU)…….and walk the earth soulless. I pick me and dealing head on with reality.
