Ignoring a Painful Reality

I guy I know stopped all his addictions. Stopped all caffeine, no drinking, nothing but organic food and only clean water. It looked like a health kick but it was something more spiritual in nature. As he started to reconnect with his own nervous system, he started to notice that his partner only posted pictures of herself on social media, without him (none of him)………which is nothing on its own of course. He also started to notice that she seemed to be “acting” when he was around, calculating exactly what was needed to please him and saying exactly what he wanted to hear. Nothing had really changed with her he figured, only he had changed. Things started feeling “odd”, as he said and nothing felt quite right.

Ended up she was in love with another man and had been for many years………..he hadn’t notice, as all his addictions were purposely invented by a part of himself that wanted to ignore the reality of his situation. It was too much pain for him to bare so he fabricated a faux reality that was more to his liking. Him getting clean and healthy was his spirit’s first run at not ignoring his painful reality any longer and that attempt was successful. After he realized what was going on, his friends approached to confirm what he was ignoring for many years…….that his partner was a good actor yet wasn’t dedicated to their relationship. Her eyes and heart were elsewhere. Pain is the only thing in the world that forces growth and many times our addictions are weak attempts we use to avoid that pain. In the end, the more we avoid pain, the more pain we get. This man now sits with his pain, listening to the deep wisdom it always brings. He’s growing because of the bravery he developed to face his pain.
