A couple of weeks ago I wrote about a junk food based theme day at a local school here in the area. This started a cascade of public reaction that to me speaks volumes about where we are as a society and how deep the trouble we’re in as a group with our children’s health.
Without health, our children have nothing. It doesn’t matter what jobs our children are groomed for if they’re in the hospital or too sick to get out of bed. If the kids are sick, they can’t execute their jobs or produce a benefit for the society we live in. It’s not like the sickness of our children is a minor issue. Obesity and sickness of our children cover the headlines of our print and video media on a daily basis. Why is it that we’re so disconnected from the parts we’re playing in this disease epidemic…where the majority of our children are guaranteed to die earlier than their own parents? It’s not like the overweight and sick children are going to die prematurely as adults in very pleasant ways….where they just die peacefully in their sleep. Why is it that we can’t look away fast enough, makes excuses or blame other factors when the health of our children is at stake? If we’re feeding junk food to our children and junk food causes our children to be sick, we need to stop doing it. It’s that simple. Here’s a documentary about how sick our children are.
We educate our children to guide them toward a better future in the hopes that our society endures further into history, when so many other societies have fallen by the way side. Call me crazy but I don’t see the benefit of getting unhealthy compounds into our children, regardless of what flags are flown over the entire event. Does it really matter that giving the kids junk food is cloaked in a cancer fund raising theme? Does charity based junk foods have a different effect on the children’s metabolisms and brains as opposed to other non-charity junk food? What has happened to our genetically designed protection mechanism we’re supposed to have for our children? Are we not supposed to be fighting to the death for our children and against anything that threatens them? Is the sole reason we’ve survived as a species not completely dependent on this child protection mechanism? Is the current health of most children, both mentally and physical, proof enough that this protection mechanism is being compromised in ways we aren’t understanding? Have certain forces discovered ways to disarm our genetic protection mechanism and literally go after our children in ways we’re failing to recognize? The conspiracy theory is that certain forces use government channels to gain legitimacy and then push unhealthy products on the greater population to aid in their premature deaths or interfere with their ability to reproduce. I tell people all the time that conspiracy theories are often business plans the common person isn’t fully educated on. To gain more information on the very real arm of science dedicated to moving unhealthy products into certain population groups please watch this video.
I was approached by school officials and parents alike regarding the first article about this junk food theme day at a local school. Many reactions were directed my way. Some defensive. Some comical. Some supportive. Some dismissive. The thing that stands out the most is that no one who forwarded me a reaction had any direct verbal concern for the children. Yes, not one person I talked to personally made any mention about what these processed foods and chemical substances were doing to the children. Given that parents have to care for sick or disabled children and given how taxing taking care of sick children is, you would think that more parents would be concerned about the compounds proven to make children sick.
Who pays when your child isn’t capable to leave the home as an adult because they’re not healthy enough to care for themselves? That now is becoming the trend. This is how sick we’re making some of the children. Some blame society but we are society so it’s us, not society as something that’s separate from us. We’re watching it and allowing it to happen. With child obesity on the rise, would it not be logical to start telling the kids about the compounds that make them fat? With disease on the rise, would it not be logical to start telling the kids about the compounds that make them sick? If junk food in the school is being promoted as a way to raise money for cancer, why is it that we aren’t telling children that the chemicals and sugar inside junk food is actually proven to cause cancer genesis and growth? What does our children’s sicknesses, dysfunction and diseases teach us about what we’re doing as adults? For how junk food is affecting our children, watch this video.
One parent informed me it may not be a good idea to mention the name of the school or my daughter in the first article yet no mention about how junk food impacts the children. One government official was very concerned about the reputation of the school (a very nice person) yet had very little to say about how the gum impacted the children’s learning ability or how these compounds were proven time and time again to lower IQ and insight behavior that isn’t conducive to learning. Many other parents laughed about it or offered me gum (as a joke) to defuse a slightly awkward social situation. Some parents also agreed that junk food in the school was not an intelligent idea given the effect of sugar and other chemicals on the children yet I am not sure if their children were told the same. With junk food being one of the most dangerous compounds for a child’s health and their ability to function in a capable way, why are we working around the clock to get as much junk food into our children as possible? The children aren’t being told the truth about junk food. That’s for sure. The fact is that we know the truth about junk food as adults but we keep feeding it to them anyway. Why?
I talked to a teacher at another school and they said the teachers themselves (at the other school) told their principle they didn’t want to deal with crazy kids after junk food theme days and that’s one of the reason that school doesn’t have them anymore. This group of parents in Australia are sticking up to the schools because they realize their children deserve better treatment at the hands of adults who know better. Click here for the video.
A government official quickly ran me down after the first junk food theme day article was published and basically asked me in an indirect way was I wasn’t supportive of the school in general. This government official is a nice person and well liked. All the teachers are as well. The government official basically inquired as to why I wasn’t, “going along to get along?” sort of speak. To me that’s the entire point. We need to raise children who speak the truth no matter how much pressure is placed upon them to do otherwise. The whistle blower is supposed to be the do-gooder but like many whistle blowers today people just don’t want to hear it. We need children who don’t go along with the crowd just for the sake of going along, especially if what the crowd is doing is producing a negative result. We certainly must be aware of how government mandates need to be questioned, as throughout history most atrocities have come at the hands of government officials executing orders from government institutions without question. The “not questioning” of orders from governmental higher ups has to be one of THE most easily recognizable patterns in recorded history where common population injustices and negative societal results occur.
Just because the government says to do it, doesn’t mean it’s right or healthy for the children. A government official also told me that these theme days were sanctioned from higher authorities in the Ontario Public School System (as options – not mandatory) and there was much confusion on the government official’s part why just following orders wasn’t really a good enough reason for me to see the benefit in letting junk food roll unprotested into the school. As a business person I’m not conditioned to implement any policies where more problems are going to occur. Anything I do personally has to produce more benefit than detriment (or my family starves to death) I don’t see any benefit in feeding children junk food for any reason, especially at school.
The entire system that I don’t approve for the children can be summed up in the 60 second conversation I had with the government official. I was being asked to stand down and allow the children harm just because someone else in the government somewhere said it may be OK to allow junk food in school. My judgment and protection of the children was supposed to be trumped and sourced out because someone with perceived authority said junk food theme days were OK. I was supposed to be triggered into my role as a follower and not an action taker because of feeling like I was not going to fit in if I did what I knew was right. Do what you know is wrong and have a nice day or stand up and have a not so nice day.
I was supposed to focus on my child only (as she obviously has been taught to try and stay away from junk food) and I was supposed to forget about the other children being harmed or the parent’s who are completely unaware of how unhealthy the junk food is. The government official kept reminding me that my daughter not eating the junk food should be my focus and not to worry about anyone else. I care for all the children, not just my own. Just as I would stop a person from hurting a child physically in my presence, I do the same when chemical attack is happening as well. Why are parents not aware of how bad junk food is? Well, it’s because the media nor the government is actively informing anyone (parent or adult) about the real dangers here. The entire issue is cyclical in nature. Some adults aren’t taking appropriate action here for the kids because the need to fit in governs many like an iron fist. Click here to see the mental problems junk food can cause……
A minor amount of negative energy was directed toward myself after the first junk food theme day article, bringing into light the punishment that awaits anyone who talks against the system. You either smile and go along with the junk food or you receive the punishment and social pressure. This is a message meant for anyone…..parent, teacher or child alike. Support the cause, don’t think too much about things and go along to get along. I wasn’t supposed to question the orders around the junk food theme day because questioning things just isn’t in the mandate and this of course is supposed to roll down onto the children, which again is my point………….the entire day is meant to re-enforce and teach that questioning government orders isn’t good or wise…….and that you get rewarded for going along with the crowd and you get punished for questioning or resisting.
How are kids supposed to trust or respect adults when we’re not strong enough to refuse active participation in activities that hurt the children? Have we ever considered that our kids don’t trust us to protect them because we don’t protect them, not even in minor ways that are fully within our control? We could get together very easy and solve this issue but our children see we do not. Do you think the children are missing that we serve their health up and let people take cracks at them like some party piñata. Let the children be children and it’s time the adults started being adults as well. When the kids are at stake, lets not be afraid to stand our ground and protect them. Our children count on us to protect them. Our children count on us to be comfortable in our adult role. Lets not let them down.
