1. Although I’ve owned businesses since I graduated from University, I wasn’t permitted into business school at McGill because I couldn’t pass calculus. I graduated with a BA in Labour Relations.
2.The businesses I’ve opened personally, partnered in or mentored to open have grossed over $100 million dollars…….and I haven’t used calculus yet? The irony is so ironic at times.
3. When I wrote my first business plan I was investigated by the RCMP because they believed the business plan was so well written that it had to be a fraudulent attempt at government funding, to finance a terrorist operation.
4. I opened my first business with only $6000, which I saved by working at East Side Mario’s during the day and Simmons Mattress at night.
5. I graduated from McGill University in January 1994 and had my first business up and running by Nov 1994.
6. My parents kindly let me stay at their house when I started my first business, until my mother observed large stacks of money on my dresser. At that time she suggested I had enough to move out and said, “I love you but you’re ready…….” My Mom, she’s the best.
7. Out of any 10 business ideas I come up with, only 2 are successful. Never be afraid to fail because it just helps you narrow down what will indeed be successful in the future.
Thank you Mom and Dad for helping me get going in life. I’m on my way! You’re the best.
