Self sabotage is pretty easy to explain. First we have the human brain, which copies and mimics as its’ primary form of learned behavior, so it doesn’t matter what you say to children……IT ONLY MATTERS WHAT YOU DO IN FRONT OF THEM. You were a child once and you were mimicking everything, consciously and subconsciously. You’ll mimic your parents or care givers first and foremost….but then you’ll mimic the media second. This means if your parents smoked, drank, ate poorly and had 9-5 jobs (that they didn’t enjoy and often left them in a state of “lack”)……you’re very likely to do the same. Some people will lament that their parents smoked or drank and that they don’t participate in either………but the human mind is way ahead of you on this point, to show you that it mimics in ways that are more mysterious. The subconscious mind mimics general patterns as well and this is why the vast majority of children (raised by smoking or drinking parents) abuse themselves in other ways, as they mimic the parental patterns of self abuse and adopt the self abusive habits as their own. As we can see from the video attached, saying something doesn’t get the child to react at all……..because she copies what’s done. What’s said doesn’t matter. What’s done is all that matters.
Knowing all this, think hard about a parent saying to a child or their children a) I smoke but I don’t want you to b) I work a futile job and am unhappy but I don’t want you to follow in my footsteps c) I’m overweight but want you to be thinner d) I’m sick but want you to be healthy. It’s easy to talk to children but it’s not effective. What is effective is being who you want your child to be. That is what works. How much of your own personal self sabotage is from you mimicking negative behavior from parents, caregivers or media?
