Try and Fail – The Endless Cycle of The Self Saboteur

The self saboteur is easy to spot at times. Treadmill unused in the basement, being used as a clothing rack. Gym membership purchased, never goes, quits the fitness club, blames the club for not following up with them. Joins another club within a couple of months, doesn’t go again, quits that gym, tells everyone that “the gym just isn’t for them”. Always blaming others is the calling card of the saboteur. Starts a diet, cheats, loses a couple of pounds, stops the diet. Starts another diet, succeeds with a moderate amount of weight loss, “rewards” themselves with a cheat meal, slides back into their old habits, gains back even more weight than they lost. Goes to the doctor, fails several medical tests, eats more junk, gains more weight, fails more medical tests, takes toxic medical drugs, gets more sick, tells everyone how sick they are to begin any conversation. Starts walking around the block with a friend, picks the most unhealthy friend to walk with, after the walk all they eat are donuts, as they laugh and giggle about how sick they are.

So the question becomes…….why all the try and fail, try and fail? Any good psychologist will tell you that trying and failing and trying and failing AS A CYCLE will always get you more societal contact, energy, connection, attention empathy and compassion compared to just failing once and staying there. Being awesome all the time, perfect weight, perfect health…..gets you very little connection, other than a deep connection with self and a similar connection with a small group of other healthy people in the tribe. The self saboteur has learned that it’s more efficient to gain connection, attention, energy and support through perpetual failure…compared to what they would get by finding their true inner power and becoming a fully functional healthy adult leader inside the tribe. And that’s only the beginning of a very long story regarding the self saboteur. So how do you break out of it? There are still a few seats available for my Overcoming Self Sabotage Workshop in November. You are also still permitted to acquire the recording of the workshop at a discount, up until this Monday.
