After I learned to love myself, it was easier to see just who loved me in a true sense of the word. When I was an addict, because I didn’t know what self love was, I would try to love others in the same dysfunctional way in which I was loving myself. Everyone does this of course because it’s natural. We can only love another to the same level we love ourselves. We can’t ever give what we don’t have. If we don’t practice true self love on our home field, we can’t apply it outwards to the world.
So if a person cares for themselves by feeding themselves fast food, they will “lovingly” bring fast food home to their partner as a demonstration of the love concept that they live out and understand. The fast food coming in the front door would be that person’s way of saying “I love you”, simply because that’s how they love and care for themselves. They will try to love you, the exact way they love themselves. To them, the fast food would be a big display of care and love. If you reject it (because it’s actually a dysfunctional form of love and self care) they most often won’t understand. This sort of dysfunctional love model is very common of course and it can be disastrous for everyone involved, especially the partner who can’t distinguish if the love displayed toward them reflects the true definition of the word or not. I know a person who drinks alcohol and they think it’s a ritual of self love, so when you go over to visit them, they offer you a drink…..as the only love they know. But that’s not real self love, that’s self abuse. Somewhere along the way, in-between inverted media influences and dysfunctional parenting, they got it backwards. Not knowing what real self love is, means that person will never know what real love is from anyone else. This means a life of perpetual chaos…….as is the design of the systems that teach the public dysfunctional love models. (like religion, government, science, medicine etc etc)
In short, if we’re unhealthy, we’ll pass that dysfunctional love model onto everyone around us, without any ability to discern if what we’re doing is really love or not. If we don’t know how to love ourselves in congruence to the true definition of the word, we won’t ever be able to figure out if the love coming from another person is safe or dangerous as well. As we learn to love ourselves properly, by never poisoning ourselves by our own hand, we master the truest form of self defense to a hostile environment, when it comes knocking to deliver its’ famous form of chaos to our front door. By setting a higher standard of personal care, self love and self maintenance for ourselves, we by extension extend that higher standard to anyone we permit to share our heart space. In life, apply the FLY principle and watch everything get better. Self love and a full time dedication to healthy living is where your best life begins. Always remember rule #1. Never invest any money you worked hard for, to poison or abuse yourself in anyway. Master that and walk effortlessly into your best life.
