If I Had One Wish

If I had one wish, this is what it would be today. I wish for a world where everyone understands that it’s best to judge people by their actions and not by their spoken words. We’re taught so much as children to focus on the spoken word that we can easily miss when the spoken word and the actions, related to those words, don’t match.

We have governments who talk peace but engage in war. We have drugs that promise health but they only provide disease. We have politicians who promise solutions but only funnel more of our resources toward processes that benefit them personally. There are many life partners promising loyalty (and respect) yet their actions don’t reflect those promises. We have drugs that promise happiness yet they only bring pain. We have government food guides that promise balance yet only deliver imbalance in the form of disease, weight gain and dysfunction. McDonald’s promises that their customers are “loving it” but no one I see eating there is loving anything, including themselves or the bodies they were given. Coca-Cola says “everything goes better with Coke” yet nothing goes better with Coke unless you want to live a sub-par existence.

Our world is confusing because we’ve been programmed to focus too much on what’s said and very little on what a person or organization does. My wish is that one day we’re all strong enough to understand that how someone acts can provide more information about truth than anything they could ever say. My wish is that people receiving information judge what a person does (instead of what’s said) and that the people speaking realize their actions will be judged above all else. The society who embraces this principle would be dramatically different than the one we live in today. I see happiness and peace in that society, where all parties are aware of how truth will be defined.

If there’s anything in life that has ever made you extremely mad or upset, it would have been a time when what someone said was the exact opposite of what they did. It’s a sign of dishonesty and humans are genetically programmed to pick it up, if they give the proper weight to actions instead of words. We appear to have lost that ability and that’s why so many people today live painful existences. Focus on what people do in order to find truth and peace in your life. When I’m confused and want a truthful answer, I pretend I’m deaf and only focus on the actions of the person or organization in question. At that point, the truth becomes crystal clear as to who they really are and what they’re really trying to say……….or even what they’re afraid to say. My wish is peace for myself and then for everyone else around me. I think this idea can help me get there.
