As a self sabotage coach we know that many people are really good at eating 1-2 or even 3 healthy meals in a day………and then the cravings start. After the healthy night meal is over, the saboteur is often sent scrambling mentally toward the chocolate, the cookies or the ice cream etc. As a self sabotage coach, we make sure to explain that this person is never craving the ice cream, the cookies or the cake. These folks are simply craving the familiar mental position of stagnation, underachievement and mediocrity. Odd but true. Ice cream is stagnation and underachievement in a bowl, which you can gobble down at anytime…..to purposely stall your ascension. That’s what self sabotage is…….but why do we do it?
There’s a part of our mind called the subconscious and it loves what’s familiar. It’s also terrified of what isn’t familiar. If the household environment we grew up in was ripe with unhealthy habits, stagnation and crisis…..this becomes our familiar and our subconscious will seek that familiar, even if by doing so we become overweight, sick, broke and miserable. The subconscious loves the familiar and it doesn’t care if the familiar is going to be fatal to our happiness, wealth and health…….it just seeks it out anyway. Our families set our “familiar” into us but so does the TV, movies and the town we live in. Our grand parents used to say, “show me your friends and I will show you your future” and that’s because we copy the behavior of others, as our primary survival adaptation in life. Again, if the repetitive messages in our environment or the people we live around are overweight, broke and diseased…….this is what we’re going to mimic and we feel uncomfortable when something “opposite” comes into view. Being raised in a poor environment makes you dislike wealth. Being raised in an unhealthy environment makes you dislike organic food or vegetables or even exercise etc etc. This is just how the mind is designed. We’re designed to blend in for safety, with the people around us and reject anything that would make us different than the tribe.
In the end, being our best will be almost impossible when raised in a chaotic, crisis filled and mediocre tribe…..UNLESS you learn how to trick the subconscious into believing you were raised in a healthy, wealthy and wise tribe.
