Never Forget Your Dreams

My mother just reminded me tonight that after I graduated from McGill University, I took 6 months off before I started my first business. In that 6 month retreat into my own little world…….I rented an apartment in Ottawa and taught myself how to skate on the Rideau Canal. I would skate daily to update my abilities. I’m still not a very good skater but if people ask me to go skating, I go now, when before I wouldn’t.

I also took the time every day to write my first business plan. A business plan written so well that I was interrogated by the RCMP (inside the bank) because they thought I was fronting a fake business for terrorists. The RCMP officers said, “your business plan is written too well for a man your age”. I was 24 at the time and yes I ended up getting the loan and moved forward very quickly in my life after that.

During the same 6 month hiatus I also completely dismantled and reassembled my motorcycle, a motorcycle that helped me get around in style for years in high school and in Montreal. It’s the only mechanical skill I actually have. I can’t do much around the house but I can change the brakes on a motorcycle, take off the chain, gas tank etc. I had to sell that bike unfortunately, just to be safe in regards to my finances, before I started my first business. After I started my business, I bought 4 other motorcycles, dream bikes….but haven’t owned one in 9 years. I really miss motorcycles and I believe there’s a health benefit to flying through the wind and sun, fully exposed to the elements. I loved it. I’ve seen this new bike lately and it really got my heart going. Dreams……never forget your dreams and the ancient whispers of the soul that draw you toward some form of freedom. Thanks for reminding tonight Mom. Thanks for the on going support.
