Lady talking to me this morning says, “I’m never going to be rich, I know that for sure” and of course whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t……..you’re always right. Your belief leads your behavior, which in turn leads your life. Belief first, behavior second and your manifested life (based on those beliefs) third. Beyond her firm belief that she’s destined to struggle, is that no one ever taught her how to be rich. Her family wasn’t rich, her friends aren’t rich and she lives in a town where mediocrity is constantly celebrated as noble, altruistic and down to earth. It’s a liberal fantasy land where the rich people are bad, the lazy revered, the prematurely diseased (who made themselves sick) catered to and where everyone’s a winner……regardless of effort, outcome, ambition or accomplishment. Good wholesome people struggle and put in a hard days work, which is never enough and that makes them more spiritually evolved somehow. That’s the background message in most of society. Sort of a “how dare you for pointing this reality out because it hurts my feelings or the feelings of the people you’re talking about.” We’ve lost the plot in our society, that’s for sure………..but on with the story anyway.
In a society like this, rising above the crowd to become your best is intimidating, if not outright terrifying. Staying mediocre never offends anyone. The easiest way never to fail, is never to try and if you do try, failing won’t offend anyone…..while succeeding with offend most. In fact, having constant crisis in your life brings positive attention and emotion to your door step in our society, while being independent and financially secure brings scorn, judgement and ridicule. Go down to any coffee shop….the unemployed, medicated, unhealthy and unmotivated have it all figured out. If everyone could be just like them, never chasing their dreams and shunning any form of success, the world would be a better place. And so the pressure grows in a child living in a society like this, who turns into a teen, who eventually turns into a young adult…….to never achieve and to take on traits of helplessness, as to always keep the energy, attention and emotion flowing toward them, instead of having their creative energy flow out of them. In the end, if you want anything in life, you’re going to have to rise above the crowd and be recognized publicly for your open disdain of a mediocre existence. You’ll be judged by the people in the bleachers for having the nerve to play the game life, down on the field, as everyone else watches…..cheering or booing. That’s all that stands between you and greatness. The fear of being judged by others who aren’t as brave as you are.
