I’ve republished this original essay by Alain Du Botton because it reframes a view on school I’ve had for a decade. School teaches many things that aren’t part of the official curriculum. The most important conditioning tool for our collective frustration being, “when you’re bored and know your spirit is dying, sit and do nothing, keep doing what you don’t like.” This program is never verbalized anywhere in the official curriculum but this constant message of, “keep doing stuff you don’t want to do” really sets up a life of hardship for many who enter jobs they don’t like and of course many marriages are based on these same principles, so is paying taxes (no one pays taxes by the way, they’re stolen), voting, drinking booze, smoking cigarettes, rotting your life away on the couch, spending more than you could ever pay back, pushing your own kids to do the exact same stuff you never liked doing, going to the doctor and demand they poison you with medical toxins etc. This school driven imprint of, “keep doing stuff you don’t like and things that don’t make any sense” really cements the bed rock of our rotting, depressing and corrupt culture. Alain Du Botton takes it from here……
