There was a point in my life when I abused cocaine, LSD, mushrooms, alcohol, unhealthy food, steroids, sex and even developed an addiction to trying to be everything I wasn’t. This story has a good ending. I ended up quitting all my addictions cold turkey and the key to doing that was making my real life less painful, so I wouldn’t need to constantly escape from that same life….which I wasn’t enjoying.
The more pain we’re in, the more magnetic and seductive the addictions can be. As I cleaned up and as I faced a life I didn’t like living, without all those pain killing addictions…….I got hit pretty hard. The pain train ran me over and then it backed up and ran me over again. As I started to come out of my toxic coma, I was not only polluted from all the poison that I was ingesting (and injecting), I woke up in a dark world of my own making…..and it was lonely, unfriendly, empty and soulless. Although a bit of a wreck, my mind started to clear (as the poisons left my system) and I got to work slowly building a life, which I never needed to escape from. Today I have a good life, which I dreamed about many years ago. Every week now is about rising to my full potential and never worrying about what life has coming my way. I can handle anything when I am clean, healthy and organized. I have no need to escape anything now because every day is a good day. That’s me below. Addiction free. I have “natural” happiness now, so I don’t need the fake chemical kind anymore. And that’s the easiest way to quit any addiction…..create a life that you don’t need to escape from. True story….
