It’s Easter weekend here in Canada and of course we often gather for a family meal. It’s tradition and I’ve done it every year since I arrived on this planet. Let’s pretend someone decided not to celebrate Easter, Christmas, Halloween and Thanksgiving in our culture……and I mean literally. Think about what that person would experience as “blow back” and think about how strong the pressure we’re all under to continue with “the way things are”……especially when family is involved. Ritual means “don’t think” and “go along to get along.” NOW, if you can feel the immense fear involved with throwing a wrench into your cultural/family traditions………then you instantly know the exact fear level EXPERIENCED by a self saboteur when they want to break tradition and become better than their tribe or the culture they live in. It’s important you know the fear people feel every day when they want to rise up to be their best……..inside a culture that only celebrates disease, failure, struggle, chaos, crisis, war, conflict, attack, destruction, addiction, corruption, immorality mediocrity, government dependence and playing small.
Quitting the habits and rituals of our family and culture is simply out of the question for most people….because of the fear involved with doing that. It’s this same family and cultural pressure to do “the same old, same old” that keeps most people stuck in lives they’re not happy in. It’s this pressure that makes a person sabotage their own progress in life. What most people don’t understand is that breaking the “thanksgiving tradition” of our culture is as hard as breaking the “income tradition” in our culture or the “coffee tradition” or “the wine tradition” or the “9-5 job tradition” or the “go to school for 20 years and get a job you don’t like tradition” or the “watch TV and waste your life looking at a wall tradition” or the “just be average so no one attacks you tradition” or “the government, who does everything to destroy me, is my best friend tradition.” Being different is hard, it’s not really permitted, it’s certainly frowned upon and because of this pressure to conform……millions waste their entire lives being afraid to change for the better because that’s NOT THE TRADITION.
Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas…………they’re all cultural rituals that we’re meant to follow or we get attacked. Being average, not rising up, always living in crisis, living cheque to cheque, making someone else’s dreams come true and playing small to please the underachieving tribe of dysfunction………are all cultural rituals as well. When we break those rituals and become BETTER or MORE, we know the attack is coming. And that’s a small price to pay for living your best life. Rise up, let the attack come……..and keep on rising.
